Description:

In the postmodern world the classical and revered take a backseat to the avant-garde and satirical. Take, for example, this museum which chronicles the throw-away society we live in. Started 30 years ago sanitation worker Nelson Molina saw the potential in discarded items. He collected them in this Harlem warehouse, everything obsessively sorted by type and color. It's also a modern history museum displaying the trends of over three decades in America. It is only open to the sanitation workers of New York but you can email tours@dsny.nyc.gov to request a visit.
