Installed in 1964 by architect Gilmore David Clarke, the Unisphere is a 140-foot-tall aluminum and stainless steel representation of Earth. It was originally created for the New York World's Fair which took place the same year. As a very conspicuous symbol of Queens the Unisphere has made an appearance on TV and the big screen - most notably on the sitcom "The King of Queens," "CSI: New York," "Men in Black," and "Iron Man 2."
