Once located in mountain coves this group of log cabins and historic buildings were moved the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the 1950s. Notable buildings include the Davis House made entirely of chestnut wood, a barn, hen house, smoke house, and blacksmith shop. You can also access the Mingus Creek Trail and Oconaluftee River Trail near the entrance of the museum. Don't forget to visit the nearby Mingus Mill where you watch corn being ground into meal the old-fashioned way. Take U.S. 441 and you should see a sign for the turnoff. The park itself is open 24/7 but there are limited hours for the visitors' center and grist mills.
