Wayah Bald Fire Observation Tower

Rising up in the Nantahala National Forest, Wayah Bald is an open, treeless area elevated 5,342 feet. The stone lookout tower is 53 stories high. Ironically, the wooden roof was burned off in a recent wildfire. The best time to visit is in spring when the rhododendron and azaleas burst into blooms of color.
