Description:

The Lewis and Clark Expedition constructed Fort Mandan during the winter from 1804-1805. During this period of time, they became friendly with the Mandan-Hidatsa villagers who helped them plot their next course. Lewis and Clark also serendipitously met the estimable woman Sacajawea who would be a legendary part of their journey. This open-air museum is replete with reproductions of buildings, interactive exhibits, and plenty of artifacts.
