James A. Garfield House

This beautifully preserved and carefully restored gabled building was once the home of the 20th U.S. President. His life ended tragically when he was assassinated in 1881. Almost all of the items in his house are original dating back to his life here. It is a symbol of a what one can achieve - that even a person born in the poorest circumstances can become the leader of a powerful nation.
