Description:

Spread Eagle Tavern in Hanoverton, Ohio was built in 1837 during the canal boom and crafted by skilled artisans who had lost work after the Bank Panic of that same year. The building is considered one of the best surviving examples of Federal period architecture in the region, featuring multiple fireplaces and finely carved woodwork. After the canal era ended the tavern eventually closed and became a private residence until it was restored and reopened in 1988. Today it is known for hearty American tavern fare with popular dishes like smoked meats, seafood plates, and its well loved Tavern Bacon Cheeseburger.
