Black Wall Street Mural

In May 2021 this thought-provoking mural was unveiled. It depicts the tragedy of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre when white mobs burned 35 blocks of the thriving Black community of Greenwood to the ground and in the process murdering at least 37 people, although some reports put the number as high as 100. Scenes are carefully imposed in each letter of the mural with a plume of black smoke drifting upward, giving the illusion that the building on which the mural is painted is on fire. The mural is painted on the supports of the 244 overpass facing the Vernon AME Church. (Submitted by Amber Malone)
