JH Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve

The Joseph H. Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, situated near Pawhuska, Oklahoma, spans over 39,000 acres and is one of the largest protected areas of its kind globally. Named after rancher and philanthropist Joseph H. Williams, the preserve focuses on conserving and restoring the tallgrass prairie ecosystem, featuring a reintroduced bison herd and managed landscapes through controlled burns. With a visitor center offering educational programs, hiking trails, and birdwatching opportunities, the preserve serves as both a recreational space and an educational hub, emphasizing the importance of preserving the unique biodiversity and cultural history of the tallgrass prairie region.
