Marland Mansion

Built in the style of a lavish Mediterranean Villa, this elegant mansion was the home of oil tycoon EW Marland. With over 40,000 square feet of living space this spectacular mansion is one of the largest homes in this region of the U.S. The "Palace on the Prairie" was built on 30 acres of land which include meadows, lakes, and other buildings such as a carriage house and cottage. The lives of the rich were also tragic and the Marland family suffered hardship due to a hostile takeover by JP Morgan. Consequently, the family did not live in their dream home for more than a couple of years, having to sell it at a greatly reduced price.
