Description:

Some of the collection dates back to the early 1800s when the U.S. was a mere fraction of the size it is now. The weapons and artillery are jaw-dropping to see in person - their massive scale is not fully realized when seen in pictures or on TV. Also on display is one of the U.S. military's less ingenious ideas - the mule gun. This weapon invented in the 19th century was strapped to a poor mule's back on which it would fire at advancing enemies. Obviously it was a failure as the mule was not happy to be the bearer of such a heavy and loud load.
