Description:

The maiden warrior lived and died in France during the 15th century but her legend has reached to the far corners of the planet, including this cosmopolitan U.S. city. Philadelphia's French community bought the bronze statue from artist Emmanuel Fremiet in 1890 to commemorate their centennial. The 15-foot-tall statue originally stood at the eastern end of Girard Avenue Bridge, but was moved to its current location in 1948.
