Keys To Community Statue

James Peniston's bronze bust of Ben Franklin was unveiled in 2007. What makes it so special is its covering - casts of 1,000 keys collected from local schoolchildren. Weighing in at one ton the sculpture also features brass plates with the names of Philly firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty over 400 years. The cost of the sculpture was jointly paid for by the Philly Fire Department and the donation of more than a million pennies from the schoolchildren. (Submitted by Shirley Beauchemin Thurston)
