Description:

The Newtown Theatre in Newtown, Pennsylvania, began life in 1831 as a meeting hall and non-sectarian house of worship for traveling ministers. By the early 1900s it had shifted into an entertainment venue, showing its first film in 1906 and becoming the oldest continuously operating movie theatre in the United States. Over the decades it expanded into live performances, concerts and modern screenings, while undergoing major renovations to preserve its historic charm and update its technology.
