The Wanamaker Building

This elegant building was once a feat in engineering. Completed in 1911 it was a jewel in Philadelphia's crown. Today it is still one of the most gorgeous building. As a department store Wanamaker's was also innovative in its business philosophy - employees were treated with respect and given free medical care and pensions. Customers eventually went to other department stores to buy their goods and the building is now inhabited by Wanamaker's competitor, Macy's.
