Description:
Gilbert Stuart was born in the Rhode Island Colony in 1755, showing an early talent as an artist. He painted some of the most famous historical figures in America such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. You might know his portrait of Washington that graces the one-dollar note. This home and grist mill is where Stuart lived the first six years of his life. The mill was mainly used for grinding tobacco. Although the open air museum may not be open to the public, it is seen easily from Gilbert Stuart Road. Check the website for hours and admission prices.
