When this lavish Beaux Arts mansion was built in the late 1800s it was the most extravagant of its kind. Designed for American royalty - the Vanderbilts - the mansion was their summer home. The most noteworthy of its features is the 500,000 cubic feet of marble on which a reported 7 million dollars was spent.
