Description:

The African American History Monument in Columbia, South Carolina, stands as a sweeping tribute to more than 300 years of Black history in the state, from the arrival of enslaved Africans in 1619 through to modern achievements. Its design features a 23-foot granite obelisk flanked by two curved granite walls inlaid with twelve bronze panels depicting scenes of enslavement, emancipation, migration and accomplishment. At its base are four rubbing stones from Africa representing Senegal, Sierra Leone, Ghana and the Congo.
