Description:

The All Star Bowling Lane in Orangeburg, South Carolina played a pivotal role during the Civil Rights Movement and was the site of the Orangeburg Massacre of 1968. Despite the passage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964, the bowling alley remained segregated, leading to protests by local African American students that culminated in a violent confrontation with police, resulting in three deaths and numerous injuries. Efforts have been made to preserve the site as a historic landmark, recognizing its significance in the struggle for civil rights.
