Description:

In 1781 General Francis Marion led his troops to victory against the British. It was part of a clever maneuver - he ordered the bridge to be burned thereby forcing the enemy into a disastrous detour. The marker was erected in 1958, half a mile north of Bryans Crossroads. If you are traveling north, the marker will be on your left.
