Description:
Started in 1681, reconstructed in 1936, and still in operation, this is one of the oldest plantations in the U.S. With its long history it has seen revolutions of all kinds. Purchased by the McRae family in the mid 1900s, the plantation's role in the antebellum era is preserved. Like many similar plantations, this one used slave labor and thus is listed as one of the African American Historic Places in South Carolina.
