Description:
Bowen’s Island Restaurant opened in 1946 when May and Jimmy Bowen transformed a simple fish camp near Folly Beach into a beloved waterfront seafood spot. Over the years it earned a loyal following for its rustic setting, graffiti covered walls, and fresh local seafood, which helped it receive a James Beard American Classic award in 2006. Although a fire destroyed the original building later that year, the restaurant rebuilt and continued its tradition of serving Lowcountry favorites. Today it is best known for its steamed oysters, fried shrimp, seafood platters, hush puppies, and other Southern coastal dishes.
