Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park

A serene park a few feet away from the beach boasts woodlands, walking trails, picnic pavilions, and some recreations of old 1800s structures. It's quite historic - Mitchelville is America's first self-governed town of formerly enslaved people. At its height the town had between 1,500-3,000 residents from diverse backgrounds. There were over 20 working plantations including cotton and rice. Group or guided tours are available or simply walk around at your own pace. (Submitted by Jimmy Olsen)
