Description:
A serene park a few feet away from the beach boasts woodlands, walking trails, picnic pavilions, and some recreations of old 1800s structures. It's quite historic - Mitchelville is America's first self-governed town of formerly enslaved people. At its height the town had between 1,500-3,000 residents from diverse backgrounds. There were over 20 working plantations including cotton and rice. Group or guided tours are available or simply walk around at your own pace.
