This is one of the darkest yet most important parts of South Carolina's history. Slave auctions used to be held outdoors but auctioneers realized that this was detrimental to the PR aspect of the slave trade. So they moved the auctions indoors where human beings continued to be bought and sold as chattel. Nothing is glossed over here - visitors will get a sober, objective, but an extremely grim understanding of the slave trade in America's history.
