Description:
This stone marker placed in 1914 commemorates the surrender of the important Confederate stronghold to General Sherman in 1865. Simultaneously, fires broke out which caused the Burning of Columbia. The marker is small and can be difficult to find; look for it at the corner of Beaufort and River.
