Description:
The Stoney Baynard Ruins on Hilton Head Island offer a rare glimpse into the island’s early 19th-century past. Once part of a grand antebellum plantation, the tabby foundations and chimneys are all that remain of the Baynard family’s expansive estate. The site carries layers of history, from its original construction by Captain Jack Stoney to its later occupation during the Civil War by Union forces. Today, visitors can wander the quiet, moss-draped ruins and imagine life on Hilton Head more than 150 years ago.
