Delta-09 Minuteman Missile Silo

Saves: 1
Check-ins: 0
A remnant of the Cold War Era, this underground silo is 12 feet in diameter and 80 feet deep. A Minuteman missile was stored in the silo from the 1960s to the 1990s - each one bearing a 1.2-megaton nuclear warhead. In total, across 150 silos in South Dakota, approximately 1,000 Minuteman missiles were deployed. There is an audio tour available (call the number displayed at the exhibit). Plan to spend about 30 minutes at the silo and another hour at the Visitor Center.
