Augusta Quarry

A man-made hole in the earth, the Augusta Quarry is a 350-deep cerulean lake. Flanked on all sides by the walls of the old quarry, it's a reminder of how an industrial blight can return to the natural beauty it once possessed. It is now a popular swimming area, although diving is severely discouraged due to the accidental deaths of a few people who dived 80 feet into the blue depths below. While you're there, enjoy the trails, the wildlife, and the cool waters - especially inviting during the sweltering Knoxville summers. (Submitted by Shirin Pagels)
