Description:

John P. Gable built his grist mill in the early 1870s. This was when the population of Cades Cove was at its peak; this mill was one of four or five that served 700 residents. Powered by water, this mill ground corn into meal. It's best to plan your trip in July or August when the park holds a daily demonstration of cornmeal grinding as it was done in the 1870s. Please see the website for updates.
