Description:

This historic area dates back to the American Revolution when Richard Henderson and Daniel Boone negotiated the Treaty of Sycamore Shoals in 1775. It was once the site of Fort Watauga in the 1800s and Fort Caswell in the late 1700s. Some buildings of these old forts have been reconstructed. It's a great place for exercise too - the two-mile Mountain River Trail follows the wooded south bank of Sycamore Shoals. Other features include an amphitheater and picnic pavilions as well as an Apollo Moon Tree which had sprouted in outer space on the Apollo 14 mission.
