Description:

Fort Davis was created to protect travelers, freight wagons, and mail coaches on the Trans-Pecos. In the 1890s the army left the fort and the surrounding town's population fluctuated. Today, the population is around 1200 which was the size when the army left in the 1890s. Being the county seat of Jeff Davis County there is some activity here such as the courthouse, the historic military outpost, and the Old Overland Trail Museum. There's also the McDonald Observatory which has a telescope and different presentations about outer space.
