Description:
The Leaning Tower of Britten, located east of Groom, Texas, along I-40 (Historic Route 66), is a unique roadside attraction. Originally a functional water tower, it was destined for demolition until Ralph Britten purchased it and relocated it to serve as a distinctive sign for his truck stop and tourist information center. Though the truck stop was abandoned after a fire, the leaning water tower remains a popular landmark and a favored photo opportunity for Route 66 travelers. Around Christmas, the town illuminates the tower with a large colored star. The site is featured in many photography books related to Route 66.
