Description:
Scholz Garten opened in 1866 and is known as the oldest continuously operating tavern in Texas, originally founded by August Scholz as a gathering place for Austin’s German community. Over the years it became a popular spot for locals, students, and legislators and survived major historical periods such as Prohibition while maintaining its welcoming atmosphere. Today it serves German American favorites like bratwurst, schnitzel, giant pretzels, and wurst boards along with hearty sandwiches and waffle fries, making it a staple for classic comfort food in Austin.
