Description:
The skeletons of prehistoric animals were uncovered here mainly from the last Ice Age. It also is the final resting place of the largest population of mammoths found to date. The mammoths were believed to have died during a flood when they were trapped here without any way to escape the narrow and steep walls. While the dating is not exact, new methods have revealed that this ill-fated herd lived and died about 68,000 years ago.
