Named for its bow shape many have described this awe-inspiring arch as a rainbow that was turned into stone. The profound feeling that the arch inspires was first felt by the American Indian tribes who considered it a sacred place. The sandstone arch was formed when flowing water eroded the softer stone leaving this almost perfect curve. Visitors are asked to remember that this is a sacred arch and should be treated as such.
