This 165-foot cleft in the earth is nicknamed "Vermont's Little Grand Canyon." As a deep part of the Ottauquechee River it's certainly wetter than the Arizona version. The gorge was cut 13,000 years ago when an enormous ice sheet moved across the region. Visit the Quechee Gorge Visitors Center, built in 2005. It offers ample bus parking and public restrooms. This two-story building with an elevator houses the Chamber of Commerce and Information Center. Walking trails abound; shopping and restaurants are across the street. (Submitted by Steph R)
