Description:

"Reverence" was created by sculptor John Sardonis in 1989. He carved the sculptures from 36 tons of African black granite. Each sculpture was fit together from two separate pieces - the vertical tail and the horizontal fluke. While whales aren't a common sighting in Vermont, remains of what was probably a Beluga were unearthed in 1849 - probably a remnant of the Ice Age when this region was covered by the Champlain Sea.
