Description:
The only known building in the area to be designed by Thomas Jefferson, the Barboursville Ruins were the stately home and grounds of James Barbour. Well after his death, the structure was badly damaged in a Christmas Day fire although the structure still stands. Now, the ruins are part of the Barboursville Winery. When the winery is open, visitors are permitted to tour the mansion.
