Deception Pass
Saves: 68
Check-ins: 30
This region was settled by Native Americans thousands of years before Europeans arrived, however, the name was bestowed by British naval officer, George Vancouver, in the 1790s. Before the telephone and internet, travelers who wanted to cross the strait had to bang a mallet against a piece of metal. Nowadays visiting the pass is much more convenient - and it is one of the most popular waterways in Washington. (submitted by Misty Sue Arndt.)
