Description:
The Tolmie Peak Fire Lookout hike in Ashford, Washington is a classic Mount Rainier National Park day hike that starts at the Mowich Lake trailhead and is about 6.5 miles round trip with roughly 1,000–1,300 feet of climbing. Parking fills up early in the summer and fall, so arrive at dawn or plan to park along the gravel road near the trailhead; a valid park pass or entrance fee is required. The best time to go is mid-July through October when the unpaved access road is open and the weather is clear, with early morning offering the best views and quieter trails. At the top you’ll be rewarded with superb views of Mount Rainier and beneath you the blue waters of Eunice Lake make great photo stops.
