In 1999, Taylor "Butch" Frazier Jr. crafted Earth Portal, a public art piece blending stainless and regular steel. Over time, stainless steel parts endured, while the regular steel segments corroded, a deliberate choice by Frazier. This choice reflects the human condition, mirroring Frazier's own journey battling lung cancer, which inspired his sculptural work. Earth Portal's contrasting sides symbolize public and private identities, echoing how our bodies transform while retaining core elements. The title hints at Frazier's transition from life to another realm. The dedication occurred on May 2, 1999 with Frazier's passing following the next day.
