Description:
This state capitol was built in 1925 after much debate as to where the capital city was to be. The state hadn't had a capitol building before, being a part of Virginia. After Virginia seceded from the Union the counties that stayed with the Union broke off to form West Virginia. Built of Indiana limestone, imported and domestic marble, and topped with a gold-leaf gilded dome, this capitol is the symbol of West Virginia's loyalty and steadfastness to the Union.
