Description:

The Chippewa Flowage features unique floating bogs that can move overnight and range from small patches to several acres. Created in 1923 from flooded swamp land, these bogs surfaced and developed vegetation over time. A notable example, the "Forty Acre Bog," has mature Tamarack trees. Bogs can stay in place for years or move and break apart due to high water and winds. New bogs can appear at any time, often in the fall, and may either sink back down or stay on the surface to develop plants and trees.
