Manitowoc Breakwater Lighthouse

This location has a long history beginning with the first lighthouse built in 1839. Improvements and reconstructions were carried out and, subsequently, a breakwater was built in 1895 to protect the harbor. After a few more improvements to the breakwater the current lighthouse was built in 1918 - made of sturdy steel and built to withstand the unpredictable weather. The lighthouse itself is not accessible but visitors can walk out to the tower and view it from the outside.
