Description:
Floating Island Lake is in Yellowstone National Park along the grand loop road in the north central part of the park. The lake's name originates because the island within its center floats and moves around the lake, changing its places over time. There are no fish in the lake per se, but it's a great place to spot some birds if you're a bird watcher. The lake is along the upper loop road between Tower Junction and Mammoth. You can almost always catch a glimpse of sandhill cranes there in the spring.
