Description:
Swan Lake and Heron Pond Trail is a 3.2-mile moderately trafficked loop trail suitable for all skill levels located near Moran, Wyoming in the northern part of Yellowstone National Park and a few miles south of Mammoth Hot Springs. This beautiful, moderately trafficked loop trail is a pristine setting curled up quietly beneath the mountains. Here you can spot (at a safe distance) a mother grizzly and her cubs among other wildlife, like elk in rutting during the fall! You may also see beaver, woodpeckers, and moose and occasional nesting swans who have the knack of closing Swan Lake Trail. The topographic differences in the area are also beautiful: pine forests, meadows with wildflowers, various sized lakes, and sporadic incredible views of the mountains. This nice loop trail is lengthy but not physically challenging. The course is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and bird watching and is best trekked from April until October.
